XAGE2 belongs to a family of cancer/testis-associated genes (Zendman et al., 2002).

▼ Cloning and Expression
Using a computer-based screening strategy, Brinkmann et al. (1999) cloned XAGE2. The deduced 111-amino acid protein is closely related to XAGE3 (300740) and XAGE1D (300289). XAGE2 sequences were contained within ESTs from fetal liver and spleen, placenta, uterus, fetal heart, breast tumor, and bone sarcoma libraries.

By RT-PCR analysis of human tissues, Zendman et al. (2002) detected XAGE2 expression in ovary, placenta, and testis only. XAGE2 was expressed in Ewing sarcoma lesions and at a low frequency in melanoma metastases.
