HGNC Approved Gene Symbol: SPDYE2
Cytogenetic location: 7q22.1 Genomic coordinates (GRCh38): 7:102,551,225-102,563,537 (from NCBI)
▼ Description
Successful completion of the cell cycle relies on the precise activation and inactivation of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs; see CDK1, 116940). SPDYE2 belongs to the Speedy/RINGO family of cell cycle regulators and is predicted to be a positive regulator of CDK activity (Chauhan et al., 2012).
▼ Cloning and Expression
Chauhan et al. (2012) reported that SPDYE2, which they called Speedy B2-like-1, contains 402 amino acids and has an approximately 140-residue Speedy box near the C terminus. The Speedy box has 2 motifs that are nearly 100% conserved between humans and fish. Human Speedy B2-like-1 also has two 72-residue repeats that are unique to members of the Speedy B2 family of proteins. Northern blot analysis detected Speedy B2-like-1 expression in all 12 human tissues examined.
▼ Mapping
Chauhan et al. (2012) reported that 3 tandem copies of the SPDYE2 gene map to chromosome 7q22.1.
