HGNC Approved Gene Symbol: GPR176
Cytogenetic location: 15q14-q15.1 Genomic coordinates (GRCh38): 15:39,795,048-39,920,938 (from NCBI)
▼ Description
Members of the G protein-coupled receptor family, such as GPR176, are cell surface receptors involved in responses to hormones, growth factors, and neurotransmitters (Hata et al., 1995).
▼ Cloning and Expression
By screening a fetal brain cDNA library with rat Gpr176, Hata et al. (1995) cloned full-length human GPR176, which they called HB954. The deduced protein contains 515 amino acids and has a calculated molecular mass of 57.0 kD. GPR176 has 4 N-glycosylation sites near its N terminus, 7 transmembrane domains, and a large C-terminal cytosolic domain. Northern blot analysis of rat tissues showed low expression in brain and spleen, trace expression in kidney, and no expression in heart or testis.
▼ Mapping
Gross (2017) mapped the GPR176 gene to chromosome 15q14-q15.1 based on an alignment of the GPR176 sequence (GenBank BC067106) with the genomic sequence (GRCh38).
