▼ Cloning and Expression
Smith et al. (1989) cloned and sequenced the oncogene of the avian erythroblastosis virus S13. The oncogene, designated v-sea, was found to be a member of the protein-tyrosine gene family. It was fused in frame with the retrovirus S13 envelope (env) gene, thus generating a fusion protein with a structure resembling that of a growth factor receptor.
▼ Mapping
Williams et al. (1987, 1988) assigned the human homolog of the transforming gene SEA from S13 avian erythroblastosis virus to chromosome 11 by Southern blot analysis of cDNAs from a panel of human-rodent somatic cell hybrids. By in situ hybridization, the assignment was refined to 11q13. Two other putative oncogenes, INT2 (164950) and BCL1 (168461), also map to 11q13.
Richard et al. (1991) described a high resolution radiation hybrid map of 11q12-q13, which placed SEA between PYGM (608455) and KRN1 (148021).
Rochelle et al. (1992) indicated that the corresponding murine locus is on proximal chromosome 19.
