▼ Cloning and Expression
By analysis of a cloned segment from the 3p22-p21.3 chromosomal region that is commonly deleted in various carcinomas, Tamari et al. (1998) identified a novel gene, which they designated XYLB because the predicted 528-amino acid protein shares 22% identity with Hemophilus influenzae xylulokinase (Xyl). Northern blot analysis revealed that XYLB was expressed as a 2.3-kb major transcript in all tissues tested. A less abundant 1.8-kb mRNA was detected in heart and skeletal muscle.
▼ Gene Structure
The XYLB gene contains 18 exons and spans approximately 28 kb (Tamari et al., 1998).
▼ Mapping
Tamari et al. (1998) identified the XYLB gene on chromosome 3p22-p21.3.
Daigo et al. (1999) reported that the XYLB gene is located between the OCTL2 (604048) and ACVR2B (602730) genes on 3p22-p21.3.
Gross (2022) mapped the XYLB gene to chromosome 3p22.2 based on an alignment of the XYLB sequence (GenBank BC137076) with the genomic sequence (GRCh38).
