The mammalian ribosome is composed of 4 RNA species (see 180450) and approximately 80 different proteins, including RPS2.

▼ Cloning and Expression

Slynn et al. (1990) isolated a human colon cDNA encoding ribosomal protein S2 (RPS2). The deduced 293-amino acid RPS2 protein (SWISS-PROT P15880) is nearly identical to the mouse LLRep3 protein.

By somatic cell hybrid mapping analysis, Kenmochi et al. (1998) mapped the RPS2 gene to chromosome 16p13.3 (GenBank AB007147).
